Project Overview

In conclusion, the study found that there was little agreement between the perception of food items as allergens and positive SPTs to common food allergens in adults. This suggests that most perceived reactions are not due to IgE mediated food allergy. As our results suggest that the number of people modifying their diet is many times higher than the number who need to due to possible food allergy. To determine the prevalence of true food allergy in the community, double blind, placebo- controlled food challenge (DBPCFC) studies need to be performed on all of those individuals 42 who were likely to have a ‘true food allergy’ from this study.
