Project Overview

Heavy precipitation events (HPEs) have caused extensive damage in India and Iberia, resulting in thousands of deaths and millions of damages. The Indian Water Resources Institute reports a three-fold rise in high precipitation events across central India from 1950-2015. Understanding atmospheric patterns and regional meteorological factors causing these events is crucial for reducing flood damage. Anomalyst moisture transport, such as monsoons and ARs, plays a key role in the water cycle. The study aims to understand the connection between HPEs and anomalous moisture transport in the Indian subcontinent, focusing on monsoon and Mediterranean climate regions. The study will use statistical and dynamical modeling methods to investigate the dynamics of HPEs and their relationship with anomalous moisture transport.
