Project Overview

HAPO refers to the state of filling of alveoli of lungs with the fluid from the walls of pulmonary capillaries. This is characterised by exercise intolerance, breathlessness, chest pain, fatigue, coughing, lethargy and disorientation. A single man portable hyperbaric chamber HAPO bag has been developed which is made of specially developed polyurethane material. It simulates low altitude conditions at high altitude locations. It is considered an excellent first-aid treatment used for shifting HAPO patient safely to lower altitude. The 2.05 m long and 0.58 m average diameter bag weighs approximately 4 kg. The technology for manufacturing HAPO bag has been transferred for production. The HAPO bag was used in shifting HAPO patients in Kargil heights during operation.
