A Process for Production of Highly Metallised Low Sulphur Directly Reduced Iron(DRI) In Tunnel Kiln

Implementing Organization

National Metallurgical Laboratory (NML)
Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (CIMAP)

Project Overview

Developed product can be used as feed/substitute of scrap material for the electric furnace, BOF furnace and induction furnace for steel making

Benefits

The process utilises ~100% waste raw materials (iron ore fines, slimes and likewise and coal fines such as middling coal, rejected coal, non coking coal, jhama coal and likewise) generated during mining and processing of raw materials for preparation of blast furnace burden, The DRI produced from this process is highly metallised (Metallisation 96%) with low Sulphur (0.006%S)
, Used as substitute of scrap /feed material for induction furnace, electric arc furnace and Basic Oxygen Furnace (BOF) for steelmaking.
