Super Hard Coatings for Biomedical Applications/Cutting Tools

Implementing Organization

Central Mechanical Engineering Research Institute (CMERI)

Project Overview

Coatings can be used in biomedical implants such as those used in orthopedic, orthodontic and cardiovascular supports. Also used to enhance the life time of cutting tools.

Benefits

No hazardous is found to be released to the environment as sputtering is a vacuum operation; Eco-friendly technique
Lower friction coefficient and better wear resistance for the multilayer coated sample, Potentiodynamic polarization studies showed that multilayer coating exhibits superior in vitro corrosion resistance than single layer and bare substrate in simulated body fluid.
