Development of finite element model for coupled thermos- mechanical analysis of shape memory alloy actuated strucMe for space application

Implementing Organization

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Guwahati
CSIR-National Institute of Oceanography (CSIR-NIO), Goa

Project Overview

Shape Memory Alloys (SMA) exihibit a unique response, namely Shape Memory Effect (SME), where they undergo large deformation upon loading and subsequent recovery upon heating. SMAs also possesses high energy density, offering them potential candidates for actuation at low frequencies. The project aims to develop finite element model for coupled thermos- mechanical analysis of shape memory alloy actuated strucMe for space application.

Benefits

The project being undertaken by ISRO in collaboration with academia is directly or indirectly beneficial to the society.
