Optical characterization and detection of micro/macro plastics in oceanic waters using volume scattering function experiments and remote sensing techniques

Project Overview

The project aims at the Optical characterization microplastics and their quantification using remote sensing data in coastal and open oceans. It combines laboratory, field, and Earth observation measurements to accomplish this study. The experiments will include the inherent optical properties (absorption, scattering, attenuation, backscattering coefficients and volume scattering function) and apparent optical properties (remote sensing reflectance) of microplastics and other water constituents.

Benefits

The project being undertaken by ISRO in collaboration with academia is directly or indirectly beneficial to the society.
