Trends in the Glacier Recessions from Kanchenjunga National Part (India and Nepal): Studies based on Spatio-temporal variability and Paleoclimate signatures

Implementing Organization

Project Overview

The study will integrate the RS and GIS approach with paleoclimatic records from lacustrine conditions using general sedimentology and magnetic studies, stable isotopic and OSL (Optically-Stimulated Luminescence) dating. This will provide additional information to formulate transition probabilities, to predict the future projection of LU/LC changes (up to the year 2040 and beyond) using the multi-temporal classification method by the Markov-cellular automata model. The results will be inferred from the number and rate of glacier retreats from the past data.

Benefits

The project being undertaken by ISRO in collaboration with academia is directly or indirectly beneficial to the society.
