Maize grown in subsistence agriculture ranges among the leading cereal crops in the world with current production placed at 526 million tonnes. India produces about 10 million tonnes of maize that constitutes about 30% of total coarse cereals produced in the country. Potential exists to process about 4-5 million tonnes by dry milling to obtain germ and grits.
