Hydraulic Transportation of Minerals/Ores/Industrial Wastes

Implementing Organization

CSIR-Institute of Minerals and Materials Technology (CSIR-IMMT), Bhubaneswar

Project Overview

A vertical pipe loop test facility consisting of Technology Demonstration5 mm NB and 100 mm NB flexible hose pipes of 20 m long each has been set up to provide basic design data for transportation of sea bed minerals (manganese nodules) from a sea depth of 6 km in slurry form. Horizontal pipe loop test facilities (high concentration and low concentration) has been established in order to transport powdery materials (Ores, Minerals Industrial wastes such as coal ash, red mud etc.) in slurry form at different concentrations and for providing basic design parameters for commercial slurry pipelines. These facilities have been extensively used for providing engineering data to a more than 25 public and private industries for commercial transportation of minerals/ores/industrial waste slurries.

Benefits

Energy saving, safe, silent, ecologically safe, reliable mode of transport, easy operation maintenance
