Novel Membrane with Controlled MW Cut off for Racemic Resolution of Amino Acids

Implementing Organization

North-East Institute of Science & Technology (NEIST)

Project Overview

Enantioselective solid polymeric membrane has the potential to become the future technological innovation for isomer separation from racemic compound for production of enantiomerically pure compounds. The technology is used for effective separation of D and L isomers amino acids with reasonably high enantioselectivity.

Benefits

Membrane can discriminate approximately all racemic amino acids
, Effective separation of D and L isomers amino acids with reasonably high enantioselectivity
, The membrane can be used in modular form like spiral wound and Hollow Fibre module for effective separation of racemic mixtures
, Low energy intensive, recyclable and cost effective process as compared to available technology of HPLC, chromatographic separation using chiral stationary phase
, Resolution performance of the membrane is same for amino acids, provide faster separation and zero waste generation
, The mini units are simple in construction and can be operated continuously to derive benefit of lower operational cost
