Wearable thoracic fluid content measurement device for congestive heart failure patients

Implementing Organization

Psg Institute Of Technology And Applied Research, Chennai

Project Overview

Thoracic impedance is a promising parameter that can be used for monitoring the thoracic fluid level of patients without any invasive procedures. Impedance is a measure of the degree a substance resists the flow of electrical current with a given voltage. Intrathoracic impedance can be used to measure changes in thoracic fluid content, intracardiac pressures, heart rate variability, patients physical activity level, and arrhythmias.

Benefits

Non-invasive measurement of this impedance has been more and more essential in the
clinical site for assessing the fluid volume status in patients with heart failure.
