Maximisation of Iron Recovery from Lean/Low-Grade Iron Ore Resources by Reduction Roasting Technique

Implementing Organization

CSIR-Institute of Minerals and Materials Technology (CSIR-IMMT), Bhubaneswar

Project Overview

When conventional beneficiation is not feasible for beneficiation of the low and lean grade iron ore resources, the reduction roasting process is an alternative route. The attempt has been made to maximize the recovery of iron values from beneficiated plant tailings, slimes from washing plant, low grade ores and lean grade ores like BHQ/BHJ/BGQ by reduction roasting process. By this process, goethite and magnetite mineral phases are changed to the magnetite phase. Depending on the mineralogical characteristics, the grade and recovery varies. It improves not only quality of the concentrate and also the yield of the concentrate by reducing the Fe content in the reject. By this process 80-95% iron value is recovered.

Benefits

It reduces the consumption of more by producing more yields. Hence it enhances the conservation of the ore, It reduces the environmental impact by utilizing the low grade ores
, It improves economical benefit to the industry, It reduces the technological problem in downstream industries
