About

This Truck Mounted Mobile Coal Sampler (TMMCS) with Instant Ash Moisture Analyser as shown in figure 1 ( a,b,c) is for collecting an unbiased coal sample from open railway Wagon/Truck. The coal collected from the loaded Wagon/Truck will provide a true random representative sample (up to 6 feet depth) which would be analysed for quality determination for Ash Moisture to get GCV value. The objective of the project has been successfully fulfilled and the feasibility of the nuclear technique method with Dual-gamma-ray Transmission for analysis of coal ash and moisture content has been established resulting a fruitful outcome. The developed technology has given satisfactory output values of coal ash and moisture content within the permissible range to get instant GCV. The results obtained from the Truck Mounted Mobile Coal Sampler (TMMCS) were validated with the SCCL's laboratory results. The characteristic curves were drawn separately for ash% and moisture% for SCCL laboratory results as shown in figure 2 and figure 3 below respectively and the same was compared with the nature of the curves obtained from TMMCS's results. After comparison it was observed that the both results are in good agreement with each other. The natures of the curves are completely similar. It shows the true compatibility of both the results.

Outcome / Output

An integrated Truck Mounted Mobile Coal Sampler was designed and developed by CSIR-CIMFR Dhanbad M/s Pranay Enterprises, Hyderabad and field trial was successfully conducted at SCCL mines. In this sampler a modified drill mechanism was developed to collect the required coal from the truck /railway wagon for online analysis of ash and moisture content in the truck itself. This system will help coal producers as well as coal purchasers to get instant results of GCV within marginal variations and within the limits in no time. This cost effective developed equipment / product would be helpful at large to reduce the cost of electricity, thus in turn beneficial to the society.
