Development of Functionally Graded materials (bi-metallic joints) using LDED for Space applications

Implementing Organization

Project Overview

The project aims to fabricate and study: (a) Ti-6Al-4VELI/SS316L bimetallic tubes fabricated using LDED process. (b) 10 N sea level thrusters out of C103 alloy fabricated using LDED process (c) Functionally graded Ti6Al4V (ELI) to C-103 bimetallic joints fabricated using LDED process. This project will also focus on optimizing the parameters of LDED process for fabrication of defect free SS316L/Ti-6Al-4V,C-103/Ti6Al4V and C-103 components using a combination of computational modelling and experimentation. The goal is to develop a process window (for all the three proposed materials) for producing parts with minimal defects/imperfections, satisfactory dimensional accuracy, minimal residual stresses and desired microstructures. These optimum process parameters will then be used for deposition of actual components.
