Methods of Converting Polstyrene Waste to Value-added Building Materials

Implementing Organization

About

Polystyrene waste, a significant environmental challenge, often ends up as litter due to its low recycling value. The solution proposes repurposing this waste into versatile tiles and sheets suitable for interior and exterior use in commercial, residential, institutional, and industrial settings. These innovative products boast durability, design versatility, and resistance to water, termites, and mold. The process involves three distinct methods with similar material requirements. The first method is mechanical processing, the second method combines chemical and mechanical approaches, resulting in consistent products, and both methods result in tiles and sheets useful for applications such as roofing, flooring, partition structures, and furniture. The third method, using slurry casting, produces uniquely different products suitable for precast design, decor, drywall, and artistic uses, known for their lightweight properties. Construction and demolition waste are also utilized to create the desired products using different methods.
