Mandibular bone augmentation with an indigenous developed novel fiber reinforced composite scaffold: A pilot clinical trial

Implementing Organization

Project Overview

An ideal biomaterial for mandibular bone augmentation should integrate with fibula, allow stabilization with screws, enhance bone regeneration and implant integration for proper dental rehabilitation. Currently, there is no biomaterial available in clinics with those properties. At Amrita, a novel fibrous composite biomaterial was developed that exhibited toughness and biodegradation, while enhancing bone regeneration and osseointegration with dental implants in preclinical models like rabbit and pig. Through this project evaluation of the performance of this biomaterial in patients is achieved and this is the first Indian made mandibular bone augmentation graft.
