NeoStim: A Neuromuscular Stimulation Enabled Orthosis to Rehabilitate Grasping in Hemiplegia
Implementing Organization
Project Overview
Current rehabilitation practices focus on inhibiting spasticity with stretching and weight-bearing exercises, which is not
enough to restore normal hand function. To address these challenges and improve hand mobility, we propose to restore grasping and
releasing objects using our patented neuromuscular electrical stimulation [NMES] technology. NMES is application of external
electrical pulses on the skin surface, to activate underlying nerves and cause muscles to contract.
