Thermo-gravimetric Reactor (TGR)

Implementing Organization

Central Institute of Mining and Fuel Research (CIMFR)

About

TGR is an useful device to study weight changes behaviour required for understanding of the reactivity and kinetic parameters of any kind of reactive solids in a lump/granular/powder form with particle size ranging from -200 mesh to 25 mm and taking weight in the wide range from few mg level to 100 g in the gaseous environment of different gases such as inert and different reactive gases including but not limited to N2, Ar, He, air, O2, CO2, steam or their mixtures of any proportion with the operating temperature up to the of 1000°C and at atmospheric pressure without the limitations of conventional TGA analysers.

Outcome / Output

TGR has following advantages over conventional Thermo-gravimetric Analyser: Present device is suitable to study weight changes behaviour of any kind of reactive solid having Lump/granular/powder form and taking weight in the wide range for several thermo-chemical reactions in the gaseous environment of different gases, up to the maximum operating temperature of 1000 C and at atmospheric pressure, TGR reflects overall (apparent) reactivity of feed samples in its original size to depict the actual phenomena taking place inside the reactor as well as to study intrinsic (diffusion free) and extrinsic (diffusion resistance) kinetics, TGR is having easily removable high temperature alloy vertical tube flanged end type reactor with electrically heated furnace having provision of upward and downward movement of furnace along the length of the reactor for the purpose of sudden heating/cooling of the sample as per process requirement, TGR is having wide range of operational flexibility with respect to temperature, sample type, sample weight, gaseous reactant flow rates and temperature, residence time, particle size, TGR is having arrangement to test product gas composition with the help of on line gas analyzer coupled with the system in vent line or collecting the outgoing gas from the sampling port with the help of any gas collection system for off line gas analysis purpose.
