Project Overview
The study aims to revive the scientific assessment and validation of GI-tagged traditional Ayurvedic medicinal plant Piper betle found in Tamil Nadu and Kerala. The objective is to develop natural food preservatives for various food products and develop agro-technical training, qualitative organic cultivation, and entrepreneurship programs for young unemployed youths and women in these areas. The methodology involves analyzing nutritional and bioactive molecule profiling of extracts and essential oils, predicting habitat suitable environments, and predicting soil/climatic factors for long-term survival. The study also focuses on developing formulations from active biomolecule-rich P. betle varieties for reducing microbial contamination in food products. The project aims to create a agro-value chain development and establish a diagnostic report on the conservation and cultivation of identified P. betle varieties.
