About

Wood polymer composite technology involves compounding wood or other lignocellulosic fibers with thermoplastics to create composite materials. However, using thermoplastic as a binder for wood veneer or bamboo mats has not been explored. Thermoplastics like polypropylene and polyethylene can percolate in the pores and crevices of wood veneers or bamboo mats, binding them together when placed between two veneer layers and hot pressed at temperatures above the polymers' melting point but below the thermal degradation temperatures. This technology aims to use waste plastic material for high-value products, free from formaldehyde, a major concern in conventional products. The developed products may be used in the construction, packaging, and furniture industries, as an alternative to traditional plywood or bamboo mat boards. The technology will have social, economic, and environmental impacts, as it addresses waste disposal issues and eliminates formaldehyde exposure to workers and emissions. The use of recycled LDPE in the production of BPC PPC polymer composites is expected to be accepted due to its environmental benefits and cost savings.
