Project Overview

The project aims to develop edible and eco-friendly packaging materials from fruit and vegetable peel and agro waste, with high nutritive value. The project includes developing an edible film making machine, semi-automatic cup making machine, and carton making machine. The project also aims to promote transfer technology to industries, small and medium-sized enterprises (SHGs), and micro and small enterprises (MSME) for scale-up and commercialization. The project is unique in its structural design, allowing for variable film length and thickness. The project is expected to generate high demand and demand for these products in India.

The methodology involves eight phases, including identifying raw materials, extracting pulp, standardizing films, developing cutlery, and crockery. The cost-benefit analysis shows that biodegradable packaging films can be a cost-effective alternative to plastic packaging, which takes hundreds of years to break down. The project also aims to reduce the cost of production by using fruit and vegetable peels, which are available at local markets and juice shops. The benefits include reduced waste, added health benefits, and increased nutrient availability.
