Project Overview
This project aims to enhance V2I connectivity through the integration of microwave and optical wireless communication OWC links using the concept of hybrid CRAN. The project focuses on traffic-based selection and allocation of resources considering line of sight LOS and non-line of sight NLOS conditions. The concept of sleeping pico cells operating at optical wireless bands is proposed to improve coverage and connectivity. Vehicles with edge computing capabilities can help offload computational tasks from the central processor in the CRAN. The proposed architecture decentralizes pilot transmission, estimation of CSI, and pre-coding matrix design for all users, allowing for decentralized computation of CSI and pre-coder matrix. Performance parameters for analyzing achievable gains include coverage probability, channel capacity and throughput, percentage reduction of computational load on the central processor, and reduction in hand-offs for the vehicles.
