Implementing Organization

Central Salt & Marine Chemicals Research Institute (CSMCRI)

Project Overview

A feasible cultivation method has been developed for sustainable production of biomass for agar production using improved method. An improved process has been developed for extraction of superior quality agar from Gracilaria edulis, which may be useful for food, agriculture and biological applications. The technology has been developed for extraction of superior quality agar, with following advantages: adequate shelf life when stored in plastic bags under ambient conditions, preparation of the agarose is simple to undertake and the seaweed is amenable to cultivation in indian waters.
