The composition of the overlaying active coating for anodes of membrane cells for the production of caustic soda and chlorine has been suitably altered to enhance the difference between the chlorine evolution potential and oxygen evolution potential to minimize oxygen evolution. If the entire chlor-alkali membrane cells in India are provided with such coating, Rs. 60 crore could be saved.
