About
A cost effective process for the manufacture of high purity solar salt in the field meeting all the global specifications. The process relates to an improved process for the preparation of solar salt from sea/ sub-soil/ lake brines which are the major sources of salt in the country. More specifically the invention relates to a cost-effective process for preparation of common salt wherein both the absolute purity as well as the ratio of Ca to Mg is important by the end users such as Chlor-alkali and soda ash industries.
Sea brine or sub-soil brine, as the case may be, can be upgraded through the process of the invention to yield improved quality of solar salt with high absolute purity and also with desired Ca2+ to Mg2+ ratio directly in the field.
The process is cost effective as it involves use of inexpensive alum at low dosage level as already reported in the prior art followed by minor adjustment of pH with small quantity of hydrochloric acid which does not add significantly to cost.
The process of the invention can be practiced in any solar salt works regardless of its size and location.
