About

Contributions of CSIR-IHBT . A thermostable SOD has been identified from a Himalayan polyextremophile plant Potentilla atrosanguinea, which was further engineered by mutation of a single amino acid to enhance the thermostability of the enzyme to twofold. An in vitro expression system was developed in E. coli for enzyme production at pilot scale.

Outcome / Output

Unique features of CSIR-IHBT SOD , SOD tolerates autoclaving [retains~75% of the un-autoclaved activity (specific activity) as measured at 5°C to 10°C], It functions across 0°C to 50°C with varying activities at different assay temperatures, Stable at room temperature, SOD has high demand in cosmetic, food and pharmaceutical industries for end applications, like developing anti-ageing creams, extending shelf-life of fruits and vegetables and during cryo-surgery and preservation of organelles.
