Usable Fruits and Vegetables ending up in landfills due to surplus unsold inventory, cosmetic based buying pattern from retailers and lack of an organized market for grade 2/3 imperfect fresh produce. The fact is that overall, 13,300 Crore Worth Fruits and Vegetables gets wasted which is approximately 20-30% of whole produce across the value chain. Around 5-10% of produce is wasted as it moves along each tier of the supply chain, from farmers to the retailers
