An Erosion Resistant Steel for Underwater Components of Turbine Hydrogenerators and Process for Producing the Same

Implementing Organization

National Metallurgical Laboratory (NML)

About

The multiphase steel comprising of martensite, austenite and bainite having high resistance against erosion due to silt impingement and cavitation can be employed as underwater components in hydroturbines. The alloy will have higher impact toughness values both at room temperature and sub-zero temperature. This alloy will have higher cavitation resistance compared to the cast 13%Cr-4%Ni stainless steel.
