About

This invention relates to a catalytic vapor phase process for the preparation of 2H-Heptafluoropropane. Previous methods has got its own limitation in terms of optimum reaction temperature, no control of side product like perfluoroisobutylene (PFIB), tedious product separation procedures and so on. Based on the limitations, none of the methods are viable for commercial exploitation. In view of the limitations of the processes of the methods there is a need to develop an improved process for the preparation of 2H-Heptafluoropropane which obviates the said drawbacks. The present invention provides a novel process for preparation of 2H-Heptafluoropropane using co-precipitated Chromia-Alumina catalyst impregnated with zinc chloride.

Outcome / Output

Well recommended substitute for halons used as fire extiniguishant and in high tech applications, The process is based on a new catalyst with high conversion, selectivity and no byproducts and also process operates in continuous mode of operation for commercial exploitation, The life of the catalyst is high with high-energy efficiency, The process is an eco-friendly with minimum effluents, and considered as green process, The product is currently not available in India and is imported. Therefore process promotes indigenous production of 2H-Heptafluoropropane thereby saving of lot of foreign exchange to the nation.
