About

Handloom activities in Tripura, India, are vital for the rural economy. However, traditional practices face challenges such as low productivity, limited production volume, and exploitation by middlemen. Technology intervention can help improve efficiency and reduce health drudgery. A study found that most artisans and weavers operate using traditional tools, leading to low productivity and health issues. A project aims to introduce new technologies in pre-processing and weaving, such as Pirn Winding Machines and Hank to Bobbin Winding Machines. The project also aims to introduce digital marketing and handholding support to empower micro-entrepreneurs. The project will involve a need assessment, technology transfer, and a community weaving center.
