About

Objective: Development of multicomponent optical glass of desired properties for the drawing of speciality fiber Fabrication of multicomponent glass fiber preform following novel techniques and drawing of specialty fiber therefrom Characterization of linear and non-linear optical properties of developed specialty optical fiber. Characterization of linear and non-linear optical properties of developed specialty optical fiber. Mode-locked Bi-doped fiber laser based on modified silica glass operating around1.7 micron with pulses of ps to sub-ps duration with average power of < 50 mW.

Summary: There is currently broad interest in extending optical technologies beyond the VIS and NIR into the less-explored realms of the MIR—driven by multiple opportunities in novel applications. To extend the spectral bandwidth of silica glass into the mid-infrared wavelength range and to overcome the associated bottlenecks of high losses in fused silica fibers, novel highly linear and non-linear optical materials so-called multicomponent-glasses and glass-ceramics will be developed. An attempt will be made for generation of broad-band SC source upto 5.0 µm along with fiber based saturable absorber to be used for the development of mode-locked femto second pulse laser at around 2.0 µm. Presently, saturable abosrober based on semiconductor, Transition Metal Di-chalcogenides, Black Phosphorus etc., for making mode-locked fiber laser involve very complex and highly specialized equipment which makes it expensive, small modulation depth and narrow operating band with etc. Accordingly, propose to develop a fiber based saturable absorbers using Cr(IV) doped YA glass based.
