About

Objective: To facilitate propagation of this globally unique technology in India & abroad by collaborating with end-users (distilleries), technology deployment partners (engineering farms) & policy makers (ministries, thinks-tanks, regulatory agencies etc)

Summary: Effluent of sugarcane molasses-based alcohol distilleries is considered as serious environmental threat (CPCB designated 'RED' category). CSIR-CSMCRI's 'Zero Waste' spent wash management technology utilises distillery effluent as resource for recovery of potash fertliser and other value added products while water is recycled in the process. CSIR-CSMCRI's technology deployment partner M/s Chem Process Systems Private Limited (Sanand, Gujarat) has installed the 1st commercial unit at Aurangabad Distillery Limited (60 klpd distillery at Walchandnagar, Maharashtra). Present proposal aims to facilitate propagation of this globally unique technology in India &abriad by collaborating with end users (distilleries), technology deployment partners (engineering farms) & policy makers (minitries, think-tanks , regulatory agencies etc.). At present CSIR-CSMCRI & M/s Chem Process Systems are in dilogue with several distilleries in India [viz., Jubilant(UP), Balrampur(UP), DCM Sriram (UP), Seksaria (UP), Tilaknagar (Maharashtra), Luna (Gujarat), Copper (Gujarat), Natem (Telangana)] in addition of 3 distilleries from Thailand. However, nature & composition of spent wash from each distillery is some what unique. While some distilleries prefer to integrate CSIR-CSMCRI's process directly with their raw spent wash, some prefer to harvest energy from their effluent & generate bio-methaneted spent wash. TDS &K content are other parameters which vary from distillery to distillery & has bearing on process & economics. Major compnents of the project are (i) process modification & tweaking to suit variation in type (raw / bio-methanated) & composition (TDS / K content etc.) of spent wash, (ii) value recovery options from de-potash organics of spent wash (aquaculture/binder etc), (iii) awarness campaign & techno-commercial intrection to facilitare deployment , (iv) technical assitance during commercial deployment, (v) engagement with policy makers viz., minitries, think-tanks, regulatory agencies etc. for technology promotion. About 3 scientist & 5 project assitants will work on different modules of the project over a period of 24 months. Proposed financial outlay of this project is ? 154.80 lakhs. It is envisaged that during the project tenure CSIR-CSMCRI's ZWSWM technology will be licensed for commercial deployment in multiple distilleries.
