About

Objective: To identify the compositions of P-22 and P-43 phosphors; Large scale synthesis of optimized P-22 phosphor in 50-100 gram batches; Characterization (phase identification, particle size analysis) and PL studies (emission spectral characteristics, life-time); To supply 3 kgs per annum of P-22 phosphor to BELOP for five years at an agreed rate; Upon success with P-22, large scale synthesis of P-43 phosphor will be attempted To identify new oxide-based phosphors and testing their suitability for Image Intensifier tube

Summary: Image Intensifier (I. I.) tubes are light amplifiers that can detect and image objects at extremely low light levels and find application in the ‘night vision devices’. Phosphor screen converts the amplified electron signal back into light in I. I. tubes. BEL Optronic Devices Ltd., (BELOP) Pune is manufacturing I. I. Tubes for defense applications using commercial phosphors P-22 and P-43. BELOP approached CSIR-CECRI to develop P-22 and P-43 phosphors. The proposed work is to identify the composition, large scale preparation methods for P-22 and P-43 phosphors.
