About

This proposal is aimed at cooperative electro-organocatalytic synthesis of enantiopure amines via oxidative Mannich-type reactions. The proposal is primarily based on exploring the reactivity of imine/iminium ion generated via electrocatalysis and their subsequent trapping with organocatalytic generated intermediates to give enantiopure amines. This synergistic organocatalytic Mannich-type reaction of electrochemically generated imines is also proposed for the synthesis of anti-HIV drugs such as DPC 961, DPC 963, and DPC 083. Notably, chiral amines have been incorporated in numerous natural products and drugs. Therefore, various asymmetric approaches have been developed for the preparation of chiral amines but the majority of these protocols have some drawbacks such as multistep synthesis, harsher conditions, and the unstable nature of imines. Thus, electro-organocatalytic synthesis of enantiopure amines turns out to be an efficient alternative to access these scaffolds.
